Concept Introduction:

How do I set up the best teaching session(s) possible?

  1. Incorporate the following components of a mediated learning environment:
    • Tell the child what they are working on and why it is important.
    • Connect what the child is doing to their own life- help make it meaningful to them.
    • Wrap up the session with a review- see what they can remember about what they just practiced.
  1. Gauge whether the skill you have picked for the child is at a “just-right” difficulty level. We want the skill to be within the child’s Zone of Proximal Development.
  2. Adjust your scaffolds according to how much support the child needs to be successful to learn and retain the skill.
  3. Measure your “examiner effort” and the student’s responsivity using a modifiability scale.
